    Abstract

In city streets the roadways and sidewalks are contested territory where motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and property owners all vie for a share of the asphalt. Territorial claims are graffitied on the paving alongside the clutter of official traffic signs. Street writing, an audiovisual essay, examines the marks on the ground for evidence of conflict.
