Substituent effects on carbonyl bond orders

Abstract

The carbonyl bond orders in a series of aliphatic compounds were calculated from computed force constants and bond lengths. Correlation of these bond-order values with the Taft substituent constants of the groups attached to the CO bond results in a linear relationship.
