Abstract
Increasing the number of Indigenous health professionals is vital to the challenge of 'closing the gap' in Indigenous health care. Newcastle University has 125 Indigenous students enrolled in a range of health disciplines, 46 are studying nursing. In comparison to their non-Indigenous counterparts, Indigenous students often experience greater barriers in tertiary education. Many Indigenous students may be the first member of their family to receive a university education.
