Abstract
Over time, any organisation needs a reassessment of its goals and priorities, and the International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT) is no exception. During the past four years the Council of IAPT has been working on aStrategic Plan for further effective development of the association. A committee within the Council, chaired by David Mabberley together with Pieter Baas (Vice President), Enrique Forero (Councilor), Ghillean Prance (President), and Tod Stuessy (Secretary), has been working on various drafts of a document and these have been discussed at annual council meetings (normally in August or September in conjunction with international symposia) and reported on in general business meetings. The last and final version of the Strategic Plan was approved by the entire Council on 21 Ausgust 2003, during the Species Plantarum conference in Uppsala, Sweden.
