Abstract

This chapter explores the dynamic field of telemedicine and telehealth, examining their definitions, historical development, and the multifaceted goals they aim to achieve. It delves into the ways telehealth and telemedicine can be delivered, including synchronous, asynchronous, and remote monitoring methods and presents evidence of their impact on diverse healthcare domains, such as cardiac rehabilitation, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease management, and diabetic retinopathy diagnosis. The importance of data collection validity and reliability in telehealth and telemedicine highlights the need for a patient-centered approach. Finally, the chapter addresses the challenges and barriers in implementing telehealth services and underscores the necessity for upskilling healthcare professionals to meet the evolving demands of modern healthcare.
