    Abstract

Volume-composition relations along the MgAl2O4-Fe3O4 spinel join were determined as a function of fO2, defect concentration, and T of synthesis. The partial molar volumes of Fe3O4 and gamma Fe8/3O4 components in synthetic spinels were measured by powder XRD and a volume model for MgAl2O4-gamma Fe8/3O4 ternary spinels was derived.-J.A.Z.
