Abstract
This work examines small but significant aspects of the Bellum Batonianum. In particular it focuses on the perception of the war in the more recent historiography;
also, it analyses impositions of modern constructions and perspectives on the past.
Furthermore, it discusses the identity of Bato the Daesitiate in light of the most
recent studies of identity of non-Mediterranean elite members from his times in
the early Principate. This study attempts to contribute to the better understanding
of the early stages of the process of so-called uRomanization" in the hinterland of
Roman Dalmatia and southern Pannonia.
