The causes of armed rebellion in Asia

Abstract

This chapter provides the conceptual framework for the book, and will examine the causes of armed rebellion including terrorism and insurgencies, such as poverty and the linkages between failed states and terrorism. The chapter surveys the literature, sums up key findings that shed light on the fundamental causes of political and religious violence, and assesses how they might throw light on how terrorism and insurgencies could be countered.
