The Cemetery of Meir: volume V: The Tomb of Wekhhotep III

    Research output: Book/ReportBookpeer-review

    Abstract

Wekhhotep III was the descendant of the Senbi-Wekhhotep family which governed El-Qusiya province during the first half of the 12th Dynasty. His tomb scenes are unique in that they show women performing all tasks traditionally performed by men, such as fishing, fowling and herding. The only men depicted in the scenes are the priests. Wekhhotep III had an unusually large number of wives but only one child, a daughter, and it is likely that these marriages aimed at producing a male successor. Wekhhotep III was the last of this family to rule El-Qusiya.
