Abstract
This creative research project investigates the ways in which an original folk-dance inspired composition (featuring a Bulgarian 7/8 Rachenitsa rhythm and modal (phrygian) melody) is able to absorb jazz harmonization and arrangement techniques.
Instrumentation: Soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trombone, tuba, piano accordion, bouzouki, double bass, and two drummers.
Duration: 5 min.
Difficulty: Medium — Requires at least one soloist to be able to improvise in a modal harmonic setting
