Abstract

The article focuses on how the television series "Desperate Housewives" relates death and marriage. It mentions that its initial episode conveys an understanding of gender and sexuality through insistent performance of the family unit and marriage as shown in the death of the character Mary Alice Young through suicide. It also notes that the episode was used to inform the audience of the conventions of marriage that exposes the roles of mother and wife based on the social ideals.
