Abstract

Geography emerged in a variety of places from common roots and intended to serve a common purpose: To provide information about environments and human activities across the world, and to develop understanding of those variations. But from that foundation, its nature and purpose vary to reflect local conditions and constraints. One of the major constraint on the development of geography is the recruitment of students and the lack of a professional destination for its graduates. The article shows the strong link between the geography done at universities and its strength in the educational system in the United Kingdom and the United States.
