title = "The Impact of climate risk on firm performance and financing choices: A commentary",
abstract = "In a commentary on the article by Huang, Kerstein and Wang (2017) titled “The impact of climate risk on firm performance and financing choices: An international comparison”, the author aims to further the debate on climate risk. The chapter argues for the development of more insights that capture both local and regional variability of climate impacts, but are at the same time aggregating findings to answer questions about firm and industry vulnerability as well as adaptation to climate change in an international context relevant to the MNE. In terms of adapting to climate change, it is discussed how financial instruments other than insurance (e.g., instruments that provide direct financing to respond to climate change impacts, or risk management instruments that help to alleviate climate change risks) can assist countries. With regards to the role played by the MNE, firms can be expected to be challenged to respond to regional impacts in the absence of appropriate support from local institutional actors.",
