N2 - Tug of war: Treatment of the doubly 15N-labeled anion receptor 6-nitro-2,3-dipyrrol-2-ylquinoxaline with solid sodium hydride in CD 2Cl2/[D6] DMSO leads to the mono-deprotonated anion (see picture). The NMR data indicate the formation of a very strong intramolecular NHN hydrogen bond, with a scalar 15N-15N coupling constant of 16.5 Hz, the largest value observed to date. (Chemical Equation Presented).
