The new kid on the block: mentoring sign language interpreters in Australia

    Abstract

    This paper provides a critique of literature on mentoring and sign language interpreting, and proposes six key phases of mentoring for sign language interpreters. The paper also discusses why a mentoring system has not yet been successfully established in Australia, and gives some recommendations for implementing mentoring for Auslan interpreters, with acknowledgement of potential barriers.
