Abstract

Professional engagement occurs when teachers actively participate in a range of professional learning opportunities. The chosen professional learning opportunities should respond to self-identified learning goals and areas of desired growth. Professional engagement is characterised by the sustained and practice demonstration of respectful, professional interactions with students, colleagues, parents/cares and members of the community. For teachers of geography, professional engagement is identified in the Professional Standards for the Accomplished Teaching of School Geography (Hutchinson & Kriewaldt, 2010; Kriewaldt & Mulcahy, 2010)
