Abstract

This was the premiere performance of a new arrangement of Robson's composition 'The Serpent', performed by the Australian large jazz ensemble 'Ten Part Invention'. Having been invited to join the group after the retirement of the legendary altoist Bernie McGann, this is Robson's first contribution to the Ten Part repertoire. The piece was originally inspired by McGann, so it was a fitting choice for this expanded arrangement. The snake-like melody lends itself to Robson's imaginative and swinging treatment.
