    Abstract

Interpretations of the so-called 'double determinative' used in the writing of the Aton's title 'father' in Amarna texts and in the title 'father' of Amun on the Restoration stele of Tutankhamun are critically reviewed and an argument for reading the determinative as a logogram for ḥḳꜢ "ruler" and the title as 'Father of the Ruler' is proposed.
