Abstract

The article focuses on the history behind the listing of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area in northeast Queensland. It discusses the issues that had to be addressed and the difficulties experienced in the period leading up to its listing. It demonstrates how differing political views can thwart the sustainable management of Australia's natural resources but how those concerned with the protection of the environment can succeed in gaining protection for valuable natural resources.
