Abstract

Theoretical work has been carried out largely with a view to obtaining qualitative and semi-quantitative understanding of the high pressure homogeneous partial oxidation of methane system, but also with the possibility of obtaining a sufficiently tractable model for computer experiments to be performed at far less cost than laboratory runs. These possibilities arise because a large amount of kinetic data for methane oxidation has been measured over the last twenty years or so, particularly in the range of 'low temperature oxidation' considered here. This paper represents the only work of this group which is not performed at isothermal conditions.
