Abstract

The thermodynamic stability of the ordered Pt8V phase has been experimentally investigated for the first time. Pt8V is shown to be stable but the ordering kinetics are sluggish, in common with other A8B phases. The order-disorder temperature Tc is determined to be 810 ± 10 °C.
