Abstract

The thermodynamic stability of the ordered Pt₈V phase has been experimentally investigated for the first time. Pt₈V is shown to be stable but the ordering kinetics are sluggish, in common with other A₈B phases. The order-disorder temperature T_c is determined to be 810 ± 10 °C.
