    Abstract

We present a theoretical analysis of waveguide components in a three-dimensional photonic crystal using the high performance perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundary condition. This formulation dramatically reduces the reflections from the ends of the photonic crystal waveguide, leading to highly accurate transmittance and reflectance calculations. The analysis method is demonstrated to give good results for 90° waveguide bends and T-junctions in three-dimensional photonic crystals.
