Trans and gender-diverse young people

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingEntry for encyclopedia/dictionary/reference book

Abstract

This entry provides an overview of the growth of research, scholarly and public attention on trans and gender-diverse young people, particularly children. The entry explores some of the ways in which queer studies, queer theory and critical methodologies offer new and emergent understandings of gender non-conforming young people. This entry also outlines some of the key issues related to the development dynamic, liberatory forms of research, advocacy, and collaborative frameworks utilized in fostering the safety, wellbeing and future of trans and gender-diverse young people. This entry demonstrates how the deconstruction of intersectional power relations provides new opportunities to critique institutional practices that continue to pathologize non-conformity among young people.
