    Abstract

The article discusses the factors which triggered the success of the music television programs "Spicks and Specks" and "Rockwiz" in Australia. It states that the broadcasting success of the shows can be traced on the first Australian music program, "Name That Tune" from 1956 to 1957. It highlights some reasons of the audience's warm response on the programs including centralised presentation of music, the exploration of music for artistic value and the promotion of emerging talents.
