    Abstract

This chapter is the first to comparatively examine the history and politics of Turkey-originated emigration to two neighbouring countries in Oceania, Australia, and New Zealand, and contrast the key features of Turkish diasporic populations in them. The immigration and settlement policies of these countries have been as remarkably different from Europe’s migrant-receiving countries as they have been from each other. The chapter’s analysis, first, provides an overview of Turkish emigration to Australia and New Zealand, highlighting the similarities and divergences between these two histories and presenting current demographic characteristics of Turkey-originated migrants in these two national settings. The discussion, then, shifts the lens to the settler colonial histories of Australia and New Zealand and contrasts their bicultural/multicultural policies to account for the formation of Turkey’s diasporas in these distinctly superdiverse societies.
