N2 - Spin degrees of freedom appear in a; variety of applications in quantum information theory and foundations of quantum mechanics, and usually are analyzed nonrelativistically. Two standard spin operators for massive spin-1/2 particles, the rest-frame spin and the Dirac spin operator Σ that is associated with the spin of moving particles are considered. As such, these two quantities can serve as prototypes for various alternative "spin operators".
