Abstract

In this paper, an all-optical semi-collector is designed. A photonic crystal platform has been used to design this optical half adder. The structure used in this design is a square lattice created by placing dielectric rods in the air. To achieve this half adder, the photonic band gap (PBG) property is used. Logic '0' means the power is close to zero and logic '1' means the power is close to the power of the light source in ON state. In the design of the optical half adder, the logical '1' has high power and the logical '0' has low power to reduce the error detection at the outputs. Also, this structure has small dimensions so that it can be used in optically integrated circuits. Light propagation in the input and output paths is done using linear defects.
