Abstract

A dual-notched compact planar ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna by integrating two novel open meander slits on the single electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) cell patch is presented. The dual-notched performance is created by placing the two EBG cell near the two sides of the feed line. The generated notches are separately adjusted by the EBG cell structure. Moreover, the proposed etched pattern on the EBG patch enables easy placement of PIN and varactor switches that can be implemented to improve the antenna properties by creating reconfigurable and tunable notched bands individually or in dual form.
