    Research output: Book/ReportBook

    Abstract

This book was designed to fill a particular gap in the lexicographical and pedagogical literature of Ukrainian, which traditionally pays little attention to the numerous differences in vocabulary between standard literary Ukrainian and the regional varieties and dialects of the language. As an aid to teachers and students of Ukrainian seeking detailed information on these variations in vocabulary, the book presents a large number of lexical items that are expressed with different terms in Eastern and Western Ukrainian varieties. The core of the book is a series of comparative wordlists including not only English, 'Western Ukrainian' and 'Eastern/Standard Ukrainian' columns, but also parallel comparative Polish and Russian lists which may be of interest to students of other Slavonic languages. The lists are preceded by a brief linguistic and historical introduction to the subject.
